What is the difference between sensor taps and non concussive taps?

Sensor taps use an infrared beam to detect hands and operate entirely automatically with no user contact required. Non concussive taps require the user to press a spring loaded button or head, which then delivers a timed flow of water before shutting off automatically. Sensor taps are the higher hygiene option as they involve zero contact. Non concussive taps are a lower cost alternative that still controls water waste through timed shutoff.

What does TMV stand for and do I need it?

TMV stands for thermostatic mixing valve. A tap with a built in TMV blends hot and cold water to deliver a safe, controlled outlet temperature, typically capped at 43 degrees Celsius to prevent scalding. TMV3 rated taps are required in healthcare settings to control outlet temperature and reduce scalding risk. They are also specified in schools, care homes and any setting where vulnerable users may be present.

What is the difference between wall mounted and deck mounted taps?

Wall mounted taps fix to the wall above the basin, keeping the basin surface completely clear. They suit wall hung basins, wash troughs and situations where plumbing runs through the wall. Deck mounted taps mount directly onto the basin or countertop through pre cut tap holes. The choice is determined by basin type, plumbing layout and the project specification.

Are commercial taps WRAS approved?

WRAS approval confirms that a product meets the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations. It is not a legal requirement for all installations but is commonly written into specifications for healthcare, education and public sector projects. Which commercial tap is best for a school or education setting?
