View full detailsCommercial wall hung toilets, also known as commercial wall mounted toilets, are fixed to the wall using a concealed carrier frame with the cistern and all pipework hidden behind the finished wall surface. The pan sits clear of the floor, making the washroom faster and easier to clean in high traffic environments. Our range covers standard, accessible and vandal resistant models from Delabie, KWC DVS and Dolphin Solutions, with pneumatic push button and sensor operated touchless flush options available. All models are built for sustained commercial use. Free delivery on every order. Call us on 020 4571 5856 if you need help specifying the right toilet for your project.
A commercial wall hung toilet, also called a commercial wall mounted toilet, consists of a WC pan fixed to the wall using a steel carrier frame. The frame is secured to the building structure and concealed within a duct or false wall, leaving only the flush plate visible on the finished surface. The cistern, all supply pipework and waste connections are hidden behind the wall. The pan itself is suspended clear of the floor, typically with the rim set at 400mm to 420mm from finished floor level for a standard installation.
Commercial wall hung toilets are built to a higher specification than residential wall hung products. The carrier frames used in commercial installations are engineered to withstand the repeated loading and lateral forces of sustained heavy use across a full working day, every day. The pans are manufactured from materials selected for durability and resistance to the cleaning products used in commercial washrooms: high grade vitreous china, engineered composite materials or stainless steel depending on the product and the environment it is designed for.
Because all the plumbing is behind the wall, the finished appearance of a wall hung toilet installation is clean and uncluttered. There are no visible pipes, no cistern and no base touching the floor. Cleaning operatives can reach the full floor area beneath and around the toilet, which matters significantly in facilities that are cleaned multiple times a day.
The choice between wall hung and floor mounted toilets in a commercial washroom comes down to four practical factors: cleaning, aesthetics, installation complexity and budget. The table below sets out the key differences.
| Factor | Wall Hung Toilet | Floor Mounted Toilet |
|---|---|---|
| Cleaning | Full floor area accessible. No base or pedestal to clean around. Faster daily cleaning in high traffic facilities. | Base sits on the floor. Junction between base and floor collects dirt and bacteria over time. |
| Appearance | Clean, modern finish. All plumbing concealed. No visible cistern. | More traditional appearance. Cistern either visible or requires separate boxing in. |
| Pan height | Adjustable at first fix. Can be set to suit standard users or accessible specification. | Fixed by the product. Less flexibility for accessible or bespoke height requirements. |
| Installation | Requires duct or false wall to house the frame and cistern. More complex first fix. | Simpler installation. No duct required. More straightforward retrofit in existing washrooms. |
| Maintenance | Cistern accessed via service panel. Frame designed for long term installation. | Cistern directly accessible. Simpler to service in most cases. |
| Suitable for | New builds, full refurbishments, high traffic facilities, washrooms with a cleaning SLA, accessible washrooms. | Simpler refurbishments, lower budget projects, situations where duct construction is not feasible. |
For most commercial new build and full refurbishment projects, wall hung installation is the standard specification. The cleaning advantage alone justifies the additional installation complexity in any facility where the washroom is cleaned to a schedule and hygiene standards are monitored.
Getting the specification right for a commercial wall hung toilet installation involves more than choosing a pan. The following factors should be confirmed at the design stage before products are ordered.
Pan height is set at first fix and cannot be adjusted once the duct is built. For a standard commercial installation, 400mm to 420mm from finished floor to the top of the rim is the accepted range. For accessible washrooms and Doc M specifications, 480mm rim height is the standard requirement. Confirm the height requirement before the frame is installed.
Pan projection is the depth of the pan from the finished wall face to the front of the rim. This determines how much space is needed in the cubicle in front of the toilet. Check the projection of the specific model against the cubicle layout and confirm it allows the required clear space in front of the WC, which for an accessible toilet is a minimum of 750mm under Doc M guidance.
Flush type should be agreed at the design stage. Pneumatic push button flush plates are the standard choice for most commercial washrooms and require no electrical supply to the cistern area. Sensor operated flush systems activate automatically on exit and are the preferred choice in healthcare, education and any facility where touchless hygiene is a priority. Both options are available across the range. See our commercial toilet cisterns and frames collection for compatible flush systems.
Water efficiency requirements under Part G of the Building Regulations must be met for new and refurbished commercial toilet installations. Single flush systems must use no more than 6 litres per flush. Dual flush systems must deliver no more than 6 litres on the full flush and 4 litres on the reduced flush. The systems in our range are available with cisterns that comply with these requirements.
Material selection should reflect the environment. For standard commercial washrooms, ceramic and composite pans are the most common choice. For environments where deliberate damage is a risk, stainless steel with through wall mounting provides the highest level of resistance. For environments with anti ligature requirements, see our anti ligature toilets range. For vandal resistant applications see our vandal proof toilets.
Commercial wall mounted toilets are specified across a wide range of environments. The most common applications are listed below.
Offices and corporate facilities use wall hung WCs for their appearance, the ease of maintaining them to a consistent standard and the reduced cleaning time per cubicle. In a facility with multiple washroom floors, the time saving across daily cleaning rounds is significant.
Schools, universities and further education colleges specify commercial wall hung models for their durability. Student washrooms see intensive use and the toilets need to perform reliably across a full day with minimal maintenance between scheduled service visits.
Healthcare facilities, hospitals, GP surgeries and clinics specify wall hung toilets because the open floor beneath the pan supports infection control procedures. Sensor flush options remove an additional contact point in a clinical environment.
Leisure centres, sports venues and hospitality facilities require toilets that can cope with extreme peak demand during events and busy trading periods. Several models in our range are rated for high traffic use and are appropriate for these environments.
Secure and custodial facilities including prisons, young offender institutions and secure schools require through wall mounting and stainless steel construction. The Delabie S21 TC and KWC DVS vandal resistant WC pan are the appropriate products for these environments within this range.
Accessible and Doc M washrooms benefit from wall hung installation because the pan height can be set precisely at first fix and the clear floor space beneath the pan supports wheelchair transfer. The Delabie Wall Hung 700 S is the accessible specification model in this range.
