Built for multi-user simultaneous handwashing in busy commercial settings where durability, hygiene and vandal resistance are the priority. Free delivery on every order.
A stainless steel wash trough is designed for environments where multiple people need to wash their hands at the same time. Unlike a row of individual basins, a stainless trough sink is a single continuous channel unit with no dividing material between users, served by multiple taps along its length and a single waste system. This makes wash troughs stainless steel faster to install, simpler to maintain and more space efficient per user than equivalent individual basin arrangements.
Stainless steel is the standard material for commercial wash troughs in demanding environments. It resists cracking, staining and deliberate damage far more effectively than ceramic or resin alternatives. It withstands heavy daily use, industrial cleaning products and the sustained wear of busy public facilities without degrading over time. For environments prone to vandalism or misuse, stainless steel trough sinks are the only realistic choice.
Stainless steel wash troughs are available in standard lengths matched to the number of tap positions and users required. A 1200mm trough typically accommodates two users, an 1800mm trough three users and a 2400mm trough four users. Single user troughs of around 600mm are also available where a compact installation is needed. Bespoke lengths can be manufactured to suit specific washroom dimensions where standard sizes do not fit the available space.
Trough configurations vary in how taps and pipework are handled. Deck mounted taps fit into drilled holes along the top surface of the trough. Wall mounted tap arrangements conceal all pipework behind the wall surface, leaving the trough itself completely clear and eliminating exposed plumbing connections. Wall mounted configurations are the preferred choice in secure and vandal resistant installations where exposed fittings present a risk of damage or misuse.
Stainless steel wash troughs are one of the most widely specified handwashing solutions across a broad range of commercial and public environments. In schools and colleges they provide a fast, efficient handwashing point for large numbers of pupils and are specified as standard in many education sector washroom refurbishments. In sports centres, leisure facilities and changing rooms they accommodate the peak demand of users leaving activity areas simultaneously, where a row of individual basins would create queuing and congestion.
In industrial and food production environments, stainless steel trough sinks meet the hygiene requirements for staff handwashing stations and are fully compatible with the cleaning regimes used in those settings. In secure environments including prisons, custody suites and secure mental health facilities, they provide the vandal resistance required where standard sanitaryware would not withstand the conditions. Stainless steel wash troughs are also widely used in transport hubs, public conveniences and sports stadiums where footfall is extreme and durability over a long service life is essential.
When specifying a stainless steel wash trough, the key decisions are size, tap configuration and pipework arrangement. Start with the number of users expected at peak times and match this to the trough length and number of tap positions. As a general guide, allow one tap position per two users for standard washroom environments, or one tap position per user in higher demand settings such as factory exits or sports changing rooms.
Consider whether deck mounted or wall mounted taps best suit the installation. Wall mounted tap arrangements remove all pipework from the trough surface entirely, which is the cleaner and more vandal resistant option but requires pipework to be planned into the wall at first fix stage. If you are retrofitting a stainless steel wash trough into an existing washroom, deck mounted taps are simpler to install and remain the most common configuration.
